The Red, White & Blue Program is an education and awareness program that develops
a network of faculty, staff and leadership team members committed to creating a welcoming
and supportive campus environment for military service members and veterans that study
at Modesto Junior College.

What’s all the fuss about FlipGrid? (FLEX #5146)

Come see the cool “humanizing” tool that is all the rage with folks at the OEI and
the @ONE Project! FlipGrid is a fun way to get students to interact and get to know
each other through video. In this workshop, we will look at examples of FlipGrid and
how they can be embedded in Canvas. FlipGrid is also a great tool for Regular Effective
Contact with students. This workshop is intended for intermediate Canvas users, but
all are welcome!

I'm having problems with a student, what can I do? We will explore the Student Code of Conduct and reporting procedures. We will assist
in identifying personal boundaries for faculty and students. Student discipline,

New and Improved Club Advisor Training (FLEX # 5132)

This training will provide an overview of campus club processes, highlight the importance
of advisors, and help ensure that our campus clubs are informed and prepared for success
this school year. This training fulfills the mandatory annual training requirement
for MJC Club Advisors.
Screencasting Made Easy (FLEX #5147)

Some of the best instructional videos don’t show the instructor at all. In this workshop,
we will review how easy it is to record your screen as you narrate through PowerPoint
or other instructional material, such as a Word doc, website, or slideshow, all using
free and simple tools. Bring a laptop to try yourself, or just come and listen. This
workshop is intended for intermediate Canvas users, but all are welcome!

This workshop will be for online faculty interested in learning more about the Online
Education Initiative and the rubric used to review courses going into the OEI Course
Exchange. I am an OEI Lead Course Reviewer and will share examples from reviews done
in the past. We were invited to join the OEI last spring, and this year we are looking
to create our own OEI Course Review process for faculty who would like to participate.
Come to this workshop to learn more. This workshop is intended for online instructors.

Dean Jillian Daly and Literature and Language Arts colleagues will show syllabi models
and lead attendees through the Center for Urban Education's (CUE) guidelines and processes
for creating a more equity-minded syllabus. CUE pedagogy sees the course syllabus
as a symbol for the systems, relationships, and implied messages that the instructor,
sometimes unconsciously, infuses in their course. What will YOUR syllabus reveal?!
IMPORTANT NOTE: Participants should bring a tablet or laptop along with an electronic
copy of their syllabus to this workshop.
Re-framing Disability - Best Practices and Services for Students with Disabilities (FLEX# 5137)

The morning session will begin with a continental breakfast and then address the progress
we have made in Guided Pathways; lay out future steps according to our workplan; introduce
the college to the Intentional Advising that has been developed by counselors and
success specialists over the last year. A two year roadmap will be presented that
will highlight the implementation of a fully integrated Pathways plan.
A short history of the Pathways process enacted last spring will be discussed, and
then first-drafts for all nine of MJC’s Schools will be presented to the college,
and the steps for editing, revision, and acceptance through MJC’s shared governance
structures will be outlined. A road map will then be presented that will show the
work needed to implement guided pathways, bringing together the instructional improvements
with carefully designed student support structures. The second half of the program
will be devoted to Intentional Advising and the expanded roles we all play in ensuring
student success. This session is open to faculty, staff and leadership team members.

Campus leadership from both faculty, and administration will be in attendance to welcome
you and offer important information to make your semester as successful as possible.
The Academic Senate, Yosemite Faculty Association, Instruction Office and various
Student Support Services will offer brief presentations and answer questions on a
range of relevant topics relevant to your work here at this institution.
And lest we forget the most important part of the evening…PIZZA! Training is always a bit easier if there is food involved, so let us be of service in that regard as well! We look forward to seeing you … come a bit early, for the sessions will begin promptly at 5:15p! All new and returning adjunct instructors are highly encouraged to attend.
