6 Cups to College Mentoring Program

This mentor-based program is designed to help high school students as they transition
to college. In partnership with the Stanislaus County Office of Education, mentors are paired
with potential students who would most benefit from assistance with college guidance. Mentors and mentees agree
to meet 6 times during the school year to address various aspects of college planning.

This hands-on workshop focuses mainly on the Canvas grade book, but we will also cover
other essentials such as uploading handouts, creating announcements, and using the
Canvas email system. The workshop is intended for faculty who are new to Canvas.

Topics include setting up modules, quizzes, discussions, and assignments, as well
as linking to YouTube videos and adding images. This hands-on workshop is intended

BIT Reporting: How and Where to File A BIT Report (FLEX #5135)

The Behavioral Intervention Team is a secondary team that intervenes to connect students
with supports on and off campus. This workshop will address behaviors that may need to be reported, shows how crisis counseling works,
and explains the mental health supports and how to connect students to them on campus.

CTE Perkins / Strong Workforce Workshop Breakfast (FLEX #5120)

If you are current recipient of CTE Perkins or Strong Workforce funding, or if you
are thinking about submitting a Strong Workforce proposal for 2017-18 funding, this
breakfast is for you! Find out how Perkins and Strong Workforce funding operate. Learn
about changes to required SW metrics and review a recent environmental scan of high
demand occupations and industry needs in our service area. We will discuss reporting
requirements for current funding recipients, changes to the proposal process, and
potential project ideas you may have. CTE deans and current recipients of Carl Perkins
or Strong Workforce funding are strongly encourage to attend. CTE faculty interested
in future funding are also invited.
Unlocking the Mystery: Using Reading Apprenticeship Across Disciplines (FLEX #5121)

workshop will provide classroom-ready strategies to help students be more successful.
It is designed both for faculty new to Reading Apprenticeship and those who want to
go deeper in fostering student metacognition and inquiry.
Flipping the Classroom With Video (FLEX #5122)

What is the “flipped classroom”? Come to this hands-on workshop to find out! Faculty
will create a brief instructional video, upload it to YouTube, and stream it back
into Canvas—all with free and easy-to-use software. Have your students watch your
lectures online so they can come to class ready to work. This workshop is intended
for faculty with intermediate technology skills, although everyone is welcome.

Guided Pathways: Building the Foundation at MJC (FLEX #5125 - Morning Session and Lunch Discussions)

This is a working session where all who are interested in the Guided Pathways Project
can contribute to our institutional self-assessment and goal setting. Large and small
group work will be accomplished and compiled results will be delivered on Friday at
the Campus-Wide Institute Day presentation. Please join us and participate in this
foundational work for the students of Modesto Junior College! The morning session
will be followed by an all college lunch on the West Campus Quad. Department and
Division meetings will be held in the afternoon. Please RSVP for lunch by using the

*MJC Dream Network: UndocuAlly Training

In an effort to continue to develop a culture of support for undocumented students,
an UndocuAlly training will be held for those interested in supporting and becoming
allies to our undocumented student population. The training will discuss what it means to be undocumented, how to provide effective
mentoring, and how to become an ally to better serve our undocumented students at
MJC.
Adjunct Faculty Orientation and Dinner (FLEX #5126)
East Campus - Library Basement 55

Campus leadership from both faculty, classified professionals, and administration
will be in attendance to welcome you and offer important information to make your
semester as successful as possible. The Academic Senate, Yosemite Faculty Association,
Instruction Office, and various Student Support Services will offer brief presentations
and answer questions on a range of relevant topics relevant to your work here at this
institution. Human Resources will provide on-site Mobile Live Scan and TB forms for
new hires who have yet to fulfill this portion of the new hire process.
And lest we forget the most important part of the evening…PIZZA! Training is always a bit easier if there is food involved, so let us be of service in that regard as well! We look forward to seeing you … come a bit early, for the sessions will begin promptly at 5:30!
