VETERAN SCHOLARSHIPS
The Modesto Junior College VRC recognizes military Veterans' talent and academic devotion. Additionally, we understand financial gaps can exist as students embark on an academic journey. Very generous donors and organizations have made possible two direct scholarships for our military veteran students. The VRC accepts applications on a annual basis using the MJC Scholarship Application. Applications will open in October until the 2nd Friday of December, recipients will be announced the following August.
Criteria:
- Military Veteran
- Minimum 12 Units*
- GPA of 2.5 or higher
*If you are an EOPS or ASC student you may apply with a minimum of 6 units with confirmation of enrollment in either EOPS or ASC
BENITO AGUILAR SCHOLARSHIP
The first scholarship exists in honor of Benito Aguilar, MJC student and United States Marine that truly lived and practiced selfless service to all he met. His personal example of care and compassion at the Veterans Resource Center embodies the proud service tradition of the United States Marine Corps, and the pursuit of academic excellence at MJC.
CAROL McKENZIE SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship celebrates Carol McKenzie and her 35 years of faithful service as the Modesto Junior College VA Certifying Official. Her skill in swiftly/accurately processing student veteran applications was rivaled only by her intense devotion to students and commitment.
MOPH Scholarship Program
This program awards 80 scholarships to Purple Heart recipients and their spouses, children, and grandchildren each year. The funds can be used for tuition, books, incidental fees, room and board, and other direct costs associated with higher education. Applications are due January 26, 2018 at 5 pm EST.
ThanksUSA
This scholarship is for dependent children, age 24 and under, and spouses of U.S. military service personnel. They will be awarded $3,000 for educational expenses.
Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society
This program is for interest-free loans and grants ranging from $500 to $3,000 per academic year for children of active duty, retired or deceased Sailors and Marines, spouses of active duty and retired Sailors and Marines and MECEP or MECP students. The funds are only for tuition, books, fees, room, and board and based on financial need. The application deadline is May 1, 2018.
General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant Program
This program is need-based for dependent sons and daughters of Air Force members, spouses of active duty members or surviving spouses of Air Force members who died while on active duty or in retired status. The grants are between $500 to $4,000. The application is due date will be available January 2018
MG James Ursano Scholarship
The MG James Ursano Scholarship program is a need based program for the children of Army soldiers to help them gain their first undergraduate degree. The amounts vary each year. They accept applications from January 1,2018 until 3pm EDT on 1 April 2017.
Fisher House Scholarships for Military Children
This scholarship is primarily funded through manufacturers and suppliers whose products are sold at military commissaries. 700 scholarship grants for $2,000 each will be awarded to dependent unmarried children under age 23 of active military duty personnel, reserve/guard and retired military members, survivors of service members who died while on active duty or survivors of individuals who died while receiving retired pay from the military. Applications information available December 15, 2018.
Sport Clips Help a Hero Scholarship
This scholarship awards up to $5,000 to qualified applicants who are service members or veterans covering tuition and fees only and will be paid directly to accredited schools. The deadline for fall semester scholarship applications is April 30, 2017.
AMVETS
The AMVETS Scholarships are available to veterans, active duty, Guard/Reserves, and children/grandchildren of veterans, active duty, Guard/Reserves who are currently high school seniors. The scholarship of either $4,000, $3,000, or $1,000 can be used for part-time or full-time undergraduate courses, graduate courses, accredited degree or certificate programs or online educational programs. Applications will be taken starting January 18 with a deadline of April 30, 2017.
NMFA Scholarships
The National Military Family Association awards an average of $500 for career funding and $1,000 for degrees as well as offering other professional funding. They are available for those who are married to an active duty, reserve, guard, retired, medically retired, wounded or fallen service member since September 11, 2001. Applications are open from October 1 through January 15, 2018.
Heroes’ Legacy Scholarship
This scholarship is for dependent unmarried children under age 23 of military members who have died or have become disabled through their active military service since September 11, 2001. Applications are due March 17, 2017
