Project TITON
Veterans have historically been challenged with unemployment after every major conflict concludes. The Wounded Warrior Project, as of 2015, estimates that approximately 16.6% of non-active duty service members are unemployed—Three times the national average. Central Valley employers and business organizations ironically have also emphasized the fact that they actively pursue military veterans as job candidates, and value them as talented, hard-working employees.
The MJC VRC has responded to this need with a new initiative as an internship opportunity known as Project TITON (Time In / Time Out Now), and wishes to make the connection.
Details
Project TITON begins in fall 2016 and includes:
- Monthly cash stipend
- One paid internship with one of several local companies
- Opportunity for full-time employment.
- Professional development workshops
- Resume/interview package
- Face time with Deans and staff in the department of your major
- Case manager for future employment
- Networking opportunities
To apply Monitor MJC student email for program application. Process is competitive. For questions, contact the VRC at (209) 575-6670.

What is SALUTE?
SALUTE stands for Service, Academics, Leadership, Unity, Tribute, and Excellence. In 2009, Colorado State University was awarded the ACE/Wal-Mart Success for Veterans Grant, and from that SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society was created. SALUTE is the first honor society created for student veterans and military at higher education institutions nationwide.
The founders of SALUTE at Colorado State University write, "Some of the terms synonymous with SALUTE are to acknowledge, congratulate, hail, pay homage, pay respects, pay tribute, present arms, and recognize. These are the types of things we at SALUTE hope to do for our members who have shown courage, strength, leadership, excellence, and perseverance in their military endeavors and now are showing that same commitment to their academic careers."
Membership Benefits
Each student selected for recognition through membership in SALUTE will receive a military style challenge coin and a certificate suitable for framing. Members of SALUTE Honor Society have full access to the scholarships available by SALUTE. These nationally recognized scholarships are intended to aid student veterans who need supplementation of their GI Bill® funding, as well as those who lack GI Bill benefits.
