Extension of Stay
Your I-20 was issued with a program end date. If you are currently maintaining status but are unable to complete a full course of study by the program end date on your I-20, you must report to the DSO prior to the program end date on the I-20 for an extension of stay.
You may be granted an extension if you have continually maintained status and that the delays are caused by compelling academic or medical reasons. Delays caused by academic probation or suspension are not acceptable reasons for program extensions. You will not be granted an extension of you do not apply for an extension until after the program end date noted on your Form I-20. If you cannot complete your educational program within the time listed on Form I-20 and are not eligible for program extension, you will be considered out of status. If eligible, you may apply for reinstatement.
