Beacon of Hope Award
Purpose
To honor the above and beyond contributions of MJC faculty, classified staff, and administrators who embrace, and showcase in their work the Beacon of Hope philosophy.
The Process
MJC faculty, classified staff, and administrators can nominate professionals as an outstanding ambassador of the Beacon of Hope philosophy. Each nominee will receive a Beacon of Hope certificate.
10 faculty, 10 classified, and 5 administrators will be selected as finalists by the Presidents Extended Cabinet, and receive the President’s Medal of Distinction. Of those finalists, one person will be selected as the Beacon of Hope Faculty of Year, one person will be selected as the Beacon of Hope Classified Staff Employee of the Year, and one person will be selected as the Beacon of Hope Administrator Employee of the Year by the Presidents Extended Cabinet.
No members of the president’s extended cabinet are eligible for the award and no member may nominate anyone for the award. The President’s extended cabinet includes: Vice President of Instruction, Vice President of Student Services, Vice President of College & Administrative Services, Dean of Advancement, Dean of Institutional Effectiveness, Dean of Student Services & Public Relations, and the Academic Senate President.
The Criteria
- Be a current MJC employee
- Must display examples of the Beacon of Hope philosophy.
- This includes:
- Demonstrating ways to say yes when helping students and colleagues
- Going above and beyond required duties to serve students
Recognition
Nominees will be recognized at the Presidents Dinner of Distinction as well as at the MJC Graduation.
