Friends of Music offer a Piano Recital by Omri Shimron
The Modesto Junior College Friends of Music present a Piano recital by Dr. Omri Shimron, on Friday, October 14 at 7 p.m. in the Recital Hall - Music 108, on East Campus, 435 College Avenue in Modesto. The recital program includes works by J.S. Bach, F. Chopin, C.P.E. Bach, Frederico Mompou and M. Wiesenberg. Tickets are $15 general admission and $10 for students of all ages and senior citizens (62 and older).
Shimron will also offer a free, public Master Class on Oct. 14, 2 – 4 p.m. in the Recital Hall, and all area piano students and pianists are invited to attend.
Shimron is a pianist and educator based in Oakland, CA, and serves as director of Keyboard Studies at California State University, East Bay in Hayward, where he teaches an international group of students. Since the summer of 2013, he has also served on the faculty of the Rebecca Penneys Piano Festival at the University of South Florida in Tampa.
His solo album, featuring Frederic Rzewski's iconic 36 Variations on "The People United Will Never Be Defeated,” was released in July 2014 on New Focus Records.
Shimron has performed extensively throughout In the US and internationally. In June 2016 he performed a recital at the World Piano Conference in Novi Sad, Serbia. Shimron recently performed recitals and lecture-recitals at Gettysburg College, Fort Lewis College, Eastern Carolina University, the North Carolina Music Academy, Elon University, and the Portland Piano Company. He won prizes from the Hoffman Competition and the Chautauqua Institution.
Born in the United States but raised in Israel, he appeared at the Jerusalem Music Center, the Jerusalem Academy of Music, and the Tel Aviv Museum.
Before relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area, Shimron taught at Elon University, Hillsdale College (MI), and Eastern Mediterranean University on the island of Cyprus. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts, (piano), a Master of Music (piano), and a Master of Arts (music theory pedagogy) from the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, New York.

through Friday, 12 to 5 p.m., by calling (209) 575-6776 during these hours, or online
at www.mjc.tix.com. Tickets will also be available at the door beginning 90 minutes prior to the performance.
Proceeds from the recital will benefit MJC music student scholarships.
