Free food opportunities offered for MJC students in summer 2019
Modesto Junior College, in partnership with United Samaritans, is offering three free food and toiletry distributions this summer for current MJC students. The free distributions are scheduled for May 23, June 20, and July 18 in front of the Student Center on East Campus beginning at 9 a.m. There are 50 boxes available on a first-come-first-serve basis at each give-away. Most boxes include canned fruits and veggies, pasta, pasta sauce, soup, peanut butter, cereal, and sometimes fresh fruit.
A large supply of toiletries are also available for current students, thanks to generous donations by MJC employees. Free food and toiletries are for current MJC students. Students must show their MJC I.D. with a summer or fall sticker or any I.D. with a current class schedule.
Emanuel Lutheran Church, continues to offer the Care Cupboard (food pantry) and Katie’s Kitchen (free breakfast) throughout the summer. The Care Cupboard is held 1 – 4 p.m. on May 20, June 3, June 17, July 1, July 15, and July 29. Katie’s Kitchen is held 7 - 9:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Wednesday. The church is located adjacent to MJC's East Campus at 324 College Avenue.
The Free Lunch on Wednesdays (FLOW), sponsored by ASMJC will return in the fall. Additionally, the Second Harvest Food Bank has offered to provide donated Starbucks food to MJC students free of charge via their mobile food truck, so stay tuned for dates, times and locations in the fall semester.
