Exciting course offered for new college students!
Modesto Junior College is offering a new College Skills 100 (COLSK 100) course designed specifically for first time college students. The three unit course is degree applicable and transferable to both University of California and California State Universities.
Students can enroll in one of 10 class sections offered in June and July, or one of 21 sections available in the fall semester.
The focus of College Skills 100 is to provide new students with a comprehensive college experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources that will foster success during the first year of college and beyond.
Course participants will receive a freeCollege Skills 100 textbook, attend success workshops, information on MJC campus resources and how to navigate college, and access to a student success specialist to aid in their college transition. As part of this class they will also experience social activities to meet new people and friends; innovative learning; interaction with MJC faculty, counselors and staff, and opportunities to participate in community engagement and campus events.
This multidisciplinary course provides first time college students with an introduction to the purpose of higher education, acclimation process, and outcomes of higher education through the exploration of student development and personal growth principles and application.
The course will focus on navigating the college environment, stages of development, life management skills, strategies for college success, health and wellness management, as well as techniques for maximizing abilities as lifelong learners.
