The Modesto Junior College Art Gallery presents Abstract Considerations, an exhibition of the works of Matt Rhoades. The display is open to the public through September 22. The MJC Art Gallery is located on East Campus, 435 College Avenue and it is open Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free.
A public reception with the artist will be held on Thursday, September 8, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Gallery. Refreshments will be served.
Concerning his influences, Rhoades said "I have worked through artists including Clifford Still, Mark Rothko, Robert Motherwell, Richard Diebenkorn, Joan Miro, Picasso, Van Gogh and others. Artists I have studied include Pierre Bonnard, Robert Longo, Edward Hopper, Sean Scully, Julian Schnabel and many other contemporary artists."
Rhoades recently celebrated the 30 year anniversary of Southside Art Center, a business he co-founded with his wife Robin in south Sacramento for adults with developmental disabilities. Over the years artists at the center have been part of more than 20 small and large scale public art installations for the State of California and private corporations in the Sacramento region.
