Guitar Festival scheduled for February 27 – March 2
The Music Departments of Modesto Junior College, San Joaquin Delta College, University of the Pacific and California State Universities of Sacramento and Stanislaus present the Guitarraganza 2019 – Guitar Festival, February 27 through March 2.
The festival opens with a Flamenco Guitar Concert on Wednesday, February 27 at 7 p.m.
in the Recital Hall on the MJC East Campus. The concert features a full flamenco quadro,
with dancers, guitarists and singers.
The Guitar Faculty of the Central Valley will be featured in the CAL-Guitars Concert on
Thursday, February 28 at 7 p.m. in the Recital Hall on the MJC East Campus. The performance
features the program directors of CSU Sacramento, UOP, Delta College, Davis Hight
School, Sacramento Guitar Orchestra, MJC and Stan State.
On Friday, March 1, MJC and the Gallo Center for the Arts join forces in bringing
Les Frères Méduses to perform their own soundtrack to the black and white film "The
Unknown," at 7:30 p.m. at the Gallo Center, 1000 I Street, Modesto.
The Gala Guitar Concert is on Saturday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Snider Hall at CSU
Stanislaus in Turlock. The program features the student guitar orchestras and faculty
for the five colleges and Les Frères Méduses (Randall Avers and Benoît Albert) performing
compositions written specifically for the festival by Ecuadorean composer Edgar Granda
Monsalve.
Tickets for the February 27-28 concerts are $12 general admission and $10 for seniors
(62 and better) and students of all ages and from all schools, and may be purchased
by visiting or calling the MJC Box Office, (209) 575-6776, open Tuesday through Friday,
12 noon to 5 p.m. and online at www.mjc.tix.com. Tickets are also available at the door beginning 90 minutes prior to each performance.
Tickets for the performance on March 1 are $16 for students, $40 general admission
and student tickets only are available at the MJC Box Office through Feb. 27. Tickets
are also for sale at the Gallo Center box office and online at www.galloarts.org. Tickets for the Gala Concert at CSU Stanislaus on March 2 are $16 and are for sale
at the door only. (MJC Box Office does not have tickets for sale for the March 2 concert.)
In addition to the concerts and guitar performance competition, the festival features
free technique workshops, master classes and demonstrations for students and interested
