Modesto Junior College

MJC hosts 81st Basketball Tournament this week

Modesto Junior College is hosting the 81st Annual Men’s Basketball Tournament from December 6 through December 8 in the Gymnasium on East Campus.  Games are at 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and at 12 p.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday.

The tournament is an MJC and Modesto community sports tradition, and is one of the longest running tournaments in the nation.

Competing are eight community college teams from around Northern California. The teams play 12 games over the three-day tourney. In addition to MJC, the teams participating this year are from Columbia, Cosumnes River, Folsom Lake, Fresno City, Lassen, Mendocino and Ohlone.

All high school students get in free on Dec. 6 for the 7 p.m. game between the MJC Pirates and Lassen Community College Cougars, by showing their high school ID card. Additionally, MJC staff and students displaying an ID card with a Fall 2018 sticker get in free for all tournament games.

Ticket prices are $7 for general admission, $5 for seniors, veterans, and students of all ages, with MJC students getting in free by displaying their ID card with a fall 2018 sticker. An all-tourney pass is available for $15 (includes admission to the 12 tournament games), and an all-season pass is available for $40, which includes admission to all tournament games and all MJC home games for both men’s and women’s basketball.

Grower Direct Nut Company is once again sponsoring the tournament.
