The MJC Foundation’s mission is to generate financial support for and increase community awareness of the students, programs and activities of Modesto Junior College, and last year (2014-2015) the Foundation’s total revenues reached $1,127,515! Over the past five years, combined revenues were $3,851,142 for an average of $770,228 per year. This level of support places the MJC Foundation amongst the top non-profit organizations in Stanislaus County.
With these funds the Foundation has provided hundreds of scholarships, over 200 program development grants across campus, and reconnected with 25,000 alumni. Here are some highlights:
- The 2016 Summer Sonata, the organization’s primary fundraising event, raised $106,000
from generous individuals and organizations last July.
- The Employee Campaign, from November 2015 until now, was supported by 165 faculty
and staff, raising $38,675 for scholarships, program development grants, and other
college support. A new Employee Campaign will kick-off on November 1, 2016.
- Donors and friends helped the Foundation, MJC Scholarship Office and community partners
to issue $786,350 in student scholarships in 2015-2016! (Melissa Clark and the Scholarship
Office are now located at the MJC Foundation Office in Morris 105.)
- Over the past five years, the Foundation has raised $3,851,142 for scholarships and programs at MJC.
A recent $10.1 million gift to the Los Angeles Community College from the Herb Alpert Foundation to support music students offers a refreshing inspiration for the MJC campus and community. While 45% of all students in higher education attend a community college, historically only 2% of higher education philanthropy comes to community colleges. However, this gift demonstrates that this is beginning to change!
