The Modesto Junior College Department of Art presents Idyllic America: Watercolor Painting by Doug Sandelin now through Thursday, November 22, 2017 in the MJC Art Gallery on the East Campus, 435 College Avenue, Modesto. The gallery is open 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday and admission is free.
A public reception for the artist will be held on Thursday, November 9, 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. in the MJC Art Gallery and Sandelin will speak at 6 p.m. The reception is also free of charge.
Sandelin, who is from Livermore, CA, is known for his figure and portrait paintings and works primarily as a watercolor painter. He has said that his work is a form of documentation and a study of human behavior.
“My art is about rejection and acceptance,” states Sandelin. “We all live with this bipolarity and need to choose wisely. I use imagery of the LGBT community, a mostly rejected community, and present them in an accepted format adapted from Norman Rockwell’s iconic Saturday Evening Post cover designs.”
