Art Gallery presents Homebody: Painting by Chelsea America
The MJC Art Gallery is located on East Campus, 435 College Avenue and it is open Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (The Gallery will be closed on Monday, January 19 for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.)
A public reception with the artist will be held on Thursday, January 19, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Gallery. Refreshments will be served.
Working in painting, drawing, photography, video and performance, Chelsea America investigates themes around self-worth, vanity, materialism, and the dynamics of sex and power in the domestic landscape.
America was born and raised in Denver, CO. She studied art at the San Francisco Art Institute, earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in New Genres in 2009. She went on to study photography, spending a semester at the Siena Art Institute in Siena, Italy. America lives and works in Modesto.
