Forging a way through AI Via Zoom
Presenter: Tara Bunag
Writing papers and creating are important parts of many courses, but it can be difficult
to see the process behind the writing. Through this workshop, see the options of The
Forge, from LibreText, in making this invisible process a bit more visible. This new,
free platform allows you to see into the process of writing, helping to guide students
while they write, and provide templates and other assistance to improve confidence
in the work they create. Visibility into the process also makes it easier to help
students to avoid inappropriate uses of AI, plagiarism, and other common issues, while
supporting good writing practices, such as drafts, revisions, and writing in shorter
segments earlier in the process versus the night before due dates. No preparation
is required for this workshop, but you may find it helpful to set up a LibreText account if you do not have one already.

11:00am-12:00pm
Presenter: Dr. Theresa Stovall
Mentoring with Social Theories Via Zoom (LINK NEEDED)
People who are passionate about their profession and are willing to share their professional
insights with others are a key component to the mentoring equation. In addition, one
must consider the art of socialization: The ability to identify and value the effective
practices of others and integrate those assets in order to achieve a unified goal.
Some may say “that mentors assume responsibility to behave in a manner that will benefit
the mentee. The element of friendship involved in the mentoring relationship is crucial
to fulfilling this responsibility” (Zagumny 43). Simply put, mentors are the friends
you rely on at work. During this session, I will discuss the importance of establishing
common interest as a means to develop an effective mentoring relationship.

Mentoring for Impact Via Zoom
Presenters: Kate Hey and Annaliese Hausler-Akpovi
This two-part workshop brings together the emotional foundations of good mentoring
with the practical tools of coaching.
In Part 1 (Kate Hey), Supporting Well-Being — the Human Side of Mentoring, we focus
on how mentors can create a supportive, emotionally healthy environment where mentees
feel seen, heard, and valued. Participants will gain practical strategies for nurturing
well-being and building trust in their mentoring relationships.
In Part 2 (Annaliese Hausler-Akpovi), Mentoring Like a Coach: Guiding, Not Telling,
we shift toward a coaching mindset. Instead of relying on the traditional “wise mentor”
model, we explore a coaching approach that help mentees think independently, develop
confidence, and make informed choices.
Together, these sessions offer a holistic framework for mentoring—one that supports
both the emotional and developmental needs of the mentee while giving mentors tools
to guide with empathy.
