Want a career as a California Tax Preparer?
Modesto Junior College's BUSAD 336 course has been approved by CTEC as a qualifying education course. This opportunity is open to both accounting and non-accounting majors. To start the process of becoming a certified tax preparer students must enroll in BUSAD 336 - Tax Accounting. BUSAD 336 is a 4 unit 70 hour course that teaches a person how to prepare a Federal Income Tax Return and a State of California Income Tax Return. The course includes a practical user approach to the most important areas of the tax law including how to calculate individual income tax, maximize deductions and credits, and tax planning strategies. Emphasis placed on compliance, basic preparation and learning how to research tax questions and interpret tax laws and regulations as they relate to the individual taxpayer. Passage of the Final Exam with a 70% or higher, and attending each class, will meet the pre-requisites to allow a person to apply to be a CTEC Registered Tax Preparer. There are no prerequisites to enroll in BUSAD 336; however, it is strongly recommended that students possess basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Student’s must have access to the internet and a computer to complete the online course materials.
