Proof of Non-Filing

Some students are required to submit verification of Non-Tax Filing. Please confirm on your Financial Aid Document Checklist if you need to submit this document.

Use one of the following options to submit Non-Tax Filing documentation:

Online Request
- This is typically not available if you have NEVER filed taxes with IRS
- If you filed taxes in prior years, go to the IRS website to obtain your Transcripts
- Choose "Get Transcript ONLINE"
- Follow steps on the IRS website to complete the request
- Select Return Transcript for the appropriate year
Telephone Request
- This is typically not available if you have NEVER filed taxes with IRS
- Contact IRS at 1-800-908-9946
- Follow prompts to enter your Social Security number and the numbers in your address
- Select Option #2 to request an IRS Tax Return Transcript and then enter appropriate year
Paper Request
- File form 4506-T - Proof of Non-Filing- Click Here
  - Lines 1-4: Follow instructions on page 2 of form
  - Line 3: Enter non-filer's street address and zip. Use address on file with IRS
  - Line 7: Select the checkbox for Verification of Non-Filing
  - Line 9: Year requesting (ie: 12/31/20yy)
- You can MAIL or FAX form (instructions on 2nd page of 4506-T form)
Foreign Non-Tax Filers
- If you are from a foreign country that did not require you to file taxes, you must submit a confirmation of non-filing from your relevant taxing authority

Note: If you are unable to provide proof of non-filing because you do not have a Social Security Number (SSN), or an Individual Taxpayer or Employer Identification Number or live in a foreign country that is unable to provide a verification of non-filing letter, please contact our office to request to speak with a financial aid technician at 209-575-7700.
