The Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drill

Along with millions of other colleges, businesses and organizations across the country, MJC is participating in the Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drill on 10/16/225 at 10:16am. This will be a test of Modesto Junior College's emergency communication systems. THIS IS ONLY A TEST.

As part of this drill, notifications will be sent to students, staff and faculty by email, text messaging, and on-campus announcements.

In the event of an actual earthquake:

  1. DROP where you are – You are safer inside modern buildings built to withstand earthquakes.
  2. COVER your head and neck to protect yourself from falling objects like ceiling tiles or light fixtures.
  3. HOLD ON to your shelter until the shaking stops.

In an emergency, MJC will communicate all additional and necessary safety information through one or more of the aforementioned methods.

An email and text message will be sent to enrolled students, and faculty/staff that have opted-in via the Pirate Alert link in the left column of the Campus Safety webpage. An announcement will be made over the college-wide phone system.

Professor Garry Hayes has authored a brief narrative on his Geotripper Blog discussing the impacts our community is likely to experience if a large earthquake strikes the Bay Area.
