Announcements

  • The application for Fall of 2027 cohort will open Spring 2027 for admittance into the program that is anticipated to start Fall 2027.
  • HESI A2 Testing will be available upon request through an off campus vendor. Dates for HESI A2 offering on MJC West Campus will be available soon. Please recheck for available dates/times. Please contact Allison Pieretti at pierettia@yosemite.edu for further details
  • VOCNR 300 is currently available Summer 2026 and Fall 2026. Please refer to the current class search option on MJC website. 

Requirements

  • Mandatory orientation 
  • Be eighteen (18) years of age or older. 
  • Have a High School Diploma, GED, or the U.S. equivalent.  
  • Applied to MJC 
  • Completion of an approved CNA program (verification through validated school transcripts). 
  • CNA with 1000 hours work experience within the last 5 years (Former/Current Employer Human Resources verification letter). 
  • Successful Completion of the 4 Pre-requisite Courses with a C or better (75% passing)  
  • Human Anatomy (ANAT) 125 
  • Food and Nutrition, Intro in Nutritional Science (FDNTR) 219  
  • Medical Terminology (MED ASST) 321 
  • Intro into Vocational Nursing (VOCNR) 300   
  • NOTE: Pre-requisite courses taken at other accredited schools may qualify for transfer credit (does not apply to VOCNR 300)   
  • Ability to pass HESI A2 entrance exam with a score of 75% and above.   
  • Test will consist the following subjects
    • Math
    • Grammar
    • Reading
    • Critical Thinking
    • Anatomy
  • Approximate Cost is $65-70
  • Register and attend Mandatory Orientation

Application Process  

  • A vocational nursing student works with a mankinThe Modesto Junior College (MJC) Vocational Nursing Program utilizes a Multi-criteria Screening Process Advising Record (MSPAR) to evaluate and select applicants for admission. This specified criterion is used to evaluate applicants, includes, but is not limited to academic degrees, healthcare work experience, volunteer experience, military healthcare work experience, life experiences, special circumstances, foreign language proficiency, and the HESI A2 score.  
  • Applicants must have a minimum score of 15 to be selected.   
  • 45 applicants will be offered an interview with a panel. Of the 45 applicants, 30 applicants will be accepted 
  • Accepted applicants will be required to successfully complete a Clinical Clearance process before being eligible to register for classes.   
    • A medical history and physical examination. 
    • Documentation of required immunizations. 
    • A negative PPD skin test must be obtained. 
    • Background Check 
    • Drug Screen 
    • CPR (BLS) Certified

Program Information 

  • The program cost is approximately $6,856.02.   
  • Information about uniforms will be given during mandatory orientation. 
  • The next upcoming cohort will begin in August 2027 (pending BVNPT approval in Jan 2027)
  • Application Period will open Spring 2027
  • What is an LVN? 
    • An entry-level health care provider who is responsible for rendering basic nursing care. 
    • A vocational nurse practices under the direction of a physician or registered nurse. 
    • The licensee is not an independent practitioner. 
    • Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) - Board of Vocational Nursing & Psychiatric Technicians
