Pharmacy Technician Curriculum

The Program consists of over 620 hours of classroom and hands-on learning: 87 hours of simulated laboratory time and 340 hours of externship at various facilities.  Students must pass drug screen and background check to be placed in externship site.

Classes will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, to allow working students the opportunity to train for a new career.

Students will need to purchase a daily $2.00 parking pass of at any Day Pass Machine (DPM) available in most parking lots. Please click on Link for campus maps.

Spring 2018 Program will be TUITION FREE and will include:

  • All textbooks, lab coat, background check, drug screening, insurance and BLS certification.
  • National PTCB exam fees and National Pharmacy Tech Association membership fees.

Steps in the Application Process:   

  • Math Test - # 1  (Math testing schedule TBA.  Applicants must attend information meeting to receiving details). 
  • Reading Assessment - # 2
  • Complete & return Application by March 16, 2018
  • Background Check - # 3


Application Process

Read and Meet




    • Successful completion of math entrance exam
    • 90 minute exam - calculators allowed.
    • Prepare to show your photo I.D.
    • Review Math Study Guide.  Sample test and answers are available (see below).
    • This math test will use Pharmaceutical Calculations (review pre-algebra - fractions, ratios, decimals, percentages).

    • Must take the MJC Reading Accuplacer test and place at Reading 82 or higher, OR 
    • Successfully complete Reading 82 or higher with a "C" or higher, OR
    • Possess an AA degree or higher from a U.S. College.

Please Note: Your application will not be accepted for recommendation unless you have met these requirements, so it is highly recommended that you complete the assessment testing promptly.

You must successfully pass a background check to qualify for program. Details will be provided at the informational meetings.

PLEASE NOTE: Applicants must complete Steps #1 and #2 before completing Step #3

  1. Obtain payment information from MJC staff
  2. Place Order
  3. Select program
  4. Click on Background check only
  5. Check you have read (twice)
  6. Fill in information
  7. Pay fees
  8. Submit background application

The required background check should take 3-5 business days. Once you are notified you have passed, complete your Pharmacy Technician application.
