High school seniors are invited to New Student Day at MJC
Modesto Junior College will host a “New Student Day” to enroll high school seniors on Saturday, April 18 at 8 a.m. in the Main Auditorium of the Performing and Media Arts Center on East Campus. Attendance and campus parking are free.
New Student Day offers high school seniors the opportunity to gain a priority registration appointment for fall classes by completing the steps of application, orientation, assessment and educational advising all in one day.
There will also be sessions during the event that will show new students how to use PiratesNet to search the class schedule, set up fall classes and access their student email. Campus tours will also be available. Special sessions for parents will provide information and the opportunity for them to ask questions.
Students will receive priority registration appointments for fall 2015 in late April, and registration for MJC’s fall classes begins on May 4. Registration for summer classes is also available, beginning March 30. MJC’s New Student Saturday assists incoming students in completing all the steps necessary prior to the deadline for the assignment of priority registration appointments.
Statewide regulations require that students be fully matriculated in order to receive priority registration. The mandatory services for students to be considered fully matriculated include orientation, assessment (testing for placement in math, reading, and English classes) and advising with completion of an abbreviated, one semester educational plan.
High school seniors are encouraged to get started on the enrollment process before attending the New Student Day by filling out an online application in advance. Online applications are available by visiting www.mjc.edu and clicking on the orange “Apply to MJC Now” button at the top.
MJC is also visiting area high schools to assist seniors in the process of enrolling and gaining a priority registration appointment. Students who have already completed an application, orientation, and assessment before arriving at New Student Saturday will be able to go directly to the final step, educational advising.
“Attending the New Student Day is one of the best ways for high school seniors to get their college education off to a great start,” said Flerida Arias-Zaragoza, director of TRIO Pre College Programs at MJC. “Prospective students should take advantage of this opportunity to get ahead and get the classes they need at MJC next fall.”
