As part of the journey towards the redesign of MJC's website, our Content Creators and Content Editors, will play a crucial role in shaping an accessible and student-focused online platform. The process you'll engage in isn't just about moving content from one place to another, it's about enhancing and optimizing the information to better serve our diverse audience and meet our institutional goals.
Your main tasks will involve the critical assessment and migration of existing content, as well as the creation of new, vibrant pages that resonate with both prospective and current students. This includes editing text, updating or adding images, and ensuring that all content is either current and up to date, or evergreen (Unlikely to change in the next year). You'll be working closely with your web developer to make sure that each piece of content is not only informative and relevant but also engaging and easy to navigate.
Our new website compartmentalizes information by audience, ensuring that students and MJC employees can each find what they're looking for quickly without becoming overwhelmed by information that is not target toward them.
Lastly, a critical aspect of your role will involve adherence to web accessibility standards. This responsibility ensures that all our content is accessible to people with disabilities, meeting legal and ethical standards. Automated testing, document accessibility training, and continuous review of accessibility practices will be important parts of these processes. Through this effort, you'll help us uphold our commitment to inclusivity and accessibility, making sure that our digital presence is welcoming to all.
In the upcoming weeks, we will be scheduling content migration kick-off meetings with all departments at MJC. Please take the time to review the resources below before those meetings.
Your contribution is vital to the success of the launch of our new website. Together, we will create an engaging, useful, and accessible website that truly represents the spirit and mission of MJC.
The following pages need to be published before end-of-day, Thursday, August 1. If you have any questions or need any assistance, please reach out to the designated content creator for your department or divisoin, or to Joshua Sigman.

Accessibility Best Practices on the new MJC Website
Below are the most common reasons pages are sent back to the content creator for revisions after being submitted for publication. Please check your pages for these common errors before submitting them:
All documents posted to the MJC website must be completely accessible and compliant with WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines. We have a variety of strategies available to us to migrate documents that are not currently designed to be accessible. Depending on your document, a variety of migration strategies may be appropriate:
Documents heavily designed with print in mind are not appropriate for posting as-is on the MJC website. The contents of such documents may be posted, when appropriate, by including the complete text and select photos or illustrations on a page on the MJC website.
If your content requires a more customized experience, Office 365 Sway is an easy way to create an attractive, accessible and mobile-friendly version of your content. If you have questions about using Sway, please contact your web developer.
MJC and YCCD offer several platforms for presenting interactive forms publicly or internally.
Office 365 forms are the easiest to implement and can be managed by any MJC employee. They can be made public or set to require authentication. Please contact your web developer if you have questions about using Office 365 Forms.
These forms offer additional features such as file upload. A jotform can be implemented by your Public Relations Team.
Etrieve offers sophisticated workflows not available on other form platforms. Etrieve forms are authenticated and can be made available to MJC students, employees, or both. They can be implemented by Central Services IT.
All meeting minutes, agendas, and committee-produced documents should be stored in an accessible format on BoardDocs. If your committee does not yet have access to BoardDocs, please contact central services IT for access.
Documents that are required by regulation or policy to be posted to the public on the website, which are not committee workproduct that is posted on BoardDocs, should be converted to text and posted on a page on the website in an accessible format.
Documents intended for use by MJC Employees or by select groups of MJC students may be shared using OneDrive, Teams, SharePoint or Email.
In the rare case that your document falls into none of these categories, or for some other reason the content cannot be posted using any of the above methods, the document may be remediated for accessibility and posted as a PDF. A guide on creating accessible PDFs can be found on Adobe's website. Please understand that accessibility remediation measures using automated tools are not comprehensive, and a document remediated using these steps may still not meet the standards for posting on MJC's website.
Non-compliant documents which are posted exclusively for archival purposes, are non-essential, and are no longer being maintained may be posted in a clearly designated archival section of the website. Documents which are essential, actively used, or are still being updated may not be posted in this way. Please consult with you web developer if you need to post archival documents to ensure that those documents and the manner in which they are posted comply with federal regulations.
These are the next steps for members of the Web Advisory Team:
Your web developer will check your page the first time before it is published. As part of this process they will ensure that the page:
