modesto-PR-BIOSCL_AS-14The study of biology includes various aspects of life, including basic organization (molecular, cellular, tissues, organs), how organisms function, their roles in the natural environment, transfer and mutation of hereditary information, evolution, and the development and applications of biotechnology. To earn an Associate in Arts Degree with an emphasis in biology, students must complete coursework and other requisites detailed in the Associate Degree Requirements. In addition to these general education requirements are biological science core courses and elective coursework, as described in the Associate in Arts Degree for Biology. By fulfilling the requirements of the MJC emphasis in biology, students will also be completing some or all lower-division preparation for baccalaureate major at the university. ASSIST (www.assist.org) is a statewide database of recorded transfer agreements between community colleges and universities. Students are advised to use ASSIST in selecting courses from the emphasis to ensure that the coursework applies to your baccalaureate major.
