Shelter-In-Place

ACTIVE SHOOTER:  Get out!  Call out!  Hide out!

  • If you hear gunshots, immediately get away if you are able (Get Out!).
  • Call 9-1-1 and then Campus Safety if you are able (Call Out!).
  • If you cannot flee, turn out the lights and barricade the door or lock if possible and HIDE yourself and others (Hide Out!).
  • Do NOT come out of hiding until you are told to do so by police, EVEN IF THE BUILDING ALARM IS SOUNDING.

SEVERE WEATHER:

  • Move away from exterior doors and windows into the core of the building.  Building Coordinators have flashlights.
  • Promote calm.
  • If possible listen on a portable radio for changes in the weather.
  • Remain in place until you are told it is safe to move about.

 HAZARDOUS DISPERSAL OUTSIDE:

  • Move away from exterior doors and windows into the core of the building.  Building Coordinators have flashlights.
  • Promote calm.
  • Secure exterior doors if possible; stuff materials around exterior doors to prevent leakage; and post signs that a shelter-in-place is in progress.
  • Once doors are secure, do NOT open them to let someone in.
  • Remain in place until you are told it is safe to move about.
