TRIO STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES PROGRAM

TRIO/Student Support Services Program is a collegiate program designed to promote student success and improve academic performance for students at Modesto Junior College and prepare them to transfer to a four year college or university.

With funds from the U.S. Department of Education, TRIO/Student Support Services Program works with underrepresented students who are the first-generation of their families to consider postsecondary education.

Throughout the year, various trips will be taken to colleges and universities, workshops and cultural events. These co-curricular activities are planned to give students a chance to socialize with each other while experiencing academic or cultural enrichment that may help them with career, school and lifestyle choices.

Who is Eligible for the Program?

To be eligible for admission in the TRIO Program, a student must meet the following requirements:
  • Be a US Citizen or permanent resident
  • Demonstrate academic potential and personal motivation to transfer to a four year college or university
  • Be accepted for new enrollment at Modesto Junior College or currently enrolled as a full time student at MJC
  • Be a first-generation college student (neither parent has completed a four year college degree) and/or
  • Be low-income, according to guidelines established by the US Department of Education
  • Have a verified disability

  • Exposure to cultural and academic enrichment activites
  • Registration Assistance
  • Tutoring Services, utilizing both group and individual methods
  • Academic and personal counseling
  • Guidance in selecting a major and learning about career options
  • Workshops to develop and improve academic and life skills
  • Assistance in applying for financial aid & scholarships
  • Visits to college campuses
  • Assistance with the college application process
