Welcome to Modesto Junior College (MJC)!

We're glad you are interested in MJC's Fall 2008 semester. We are excited about our great new StartSmart program - a way you can satisfy your orientation/advising requirement and ‘bump up' your August registration date to July! After you apply to the college for the Fall semester, you will receive an August registration date. But, you can exchange that August date for a July date just by completing one of the StartSmart options below!

This is what last year's StartSmart students had to say about the program:

"I personally liked that it pushes up the registration time. I also loved that I get to do everything in one day!"

"I liked the fact that we went step by step through the way you are supposed to register on-line for classes."

"There were helpful counselors who were ready and willing to build my college goals and introduce me to all the options MJC has."

"I liked the fact that I got to register early! And, I was more prepared to register for my classes."

"It helped me to understand about getting started. It made school less stressful."

Option 1: Attend a StartSmart Orientation/Advising Workshop in July 2008

Step 1: If you have never attended MJC, complete the admissions application. It is available by clicking this link. If you enrolled within the past year as a high school senior (either during the Fall 2007 or Spring 2008 semesters), skip to the section on Continuing High School Students.

Step 2: Complete MJC assessment. Assessment includes a computerized English/reading test or a 45-minute ESL test for second language English speakers, and a math test. Assessment must be completed before a StartSmart reservation can be made.

Step 3: Choose one of the StartSmart Workshops listed in this brochure.

Step 4: Phone 575-6087 to reserve your seat in the workshop (space is limited to 50 students per session so make your reservation early!).

Step 5: Attend and complete the StartSmart orientation and advising workshop.

Step 6: Register for Fall 2008 classes with the help of MJC enrollment assistants immediately following your StartSmart workshop.

Option 2: Take a Guidance Class (Next Page)
