  Attend this SLO training if:
  • You want to understand what SLOs mean “to the big picture”

  • You feel skeptical about what you’ve learned about SLOs thus far

  • You have never learned anything about SLOs

  • You have had training on SLOs but still do not understand what they are and what they mean to your work

  • You have not attended any SLO trainings within the last 12 months

  Learning Objectives

After attending a “No-Nonsense” training session on SLOs, MJC faculty and staff will be able to:

  • Distinguish between student learning objectives and student learning outcomes

  • Describe the cycle in which student learning outcomes and objectives are some of the steps used to improve learning

  • Explain why objectives are instructor-specific or service-specific.

  • Name one institutional process in which key elements for SLOs have already been created.

  • Justify the value of measurable objectives to:

    • STUDENTS

    • OURSELVES

    • OUR COLLEAGUES

    • OUR COMMUNITY

  • Identify what makes an objective measurable.

  • Exemplify types of factors that can influence a single outcome.

  • Describe how an outcome can provide an interesting snapshot of our institutional effectiveness in a given place and time.

  • Explain how the instructional design cycle is a tool to help us improve our institutional effectiveness.

  • Describe the impact of our loss of accreditation on our students

  • Describe the relationship between SLOs and our accredited status
