Improving Learning
and Success at
Modesto Junior College.

All of us are passionate about understanding how and why our students perform as they do in our classes, after our services, and as the result of our programs. Intuitively, we have known that there are an array of influences on an individual student's success in a learning scenario. Educators throughout time have innovated at every turn in hopes of directly improving student success. However, we have not had a consistent means through which we can directly and systematically identify those factors that are impacting student learning so that we can systematically respond to them.

Now we have a means to that end.

Research and practice have shown that, by using educational research and instructional design methods, MJC can make systematic improvements to student learning. At the core of this approach are student learning objectives and their corresponding outcomes which, when used objectively and systematically, can better empower us to improve student learning directly. Click the following images to learn more about SLOs and instruction at MJC...

We're all a part of student success.
The college recognizes that instructional design and educational research methods can help improve student success at all levels of the institution. Every single student learning outcome - whether resulting from a geology lab, in the Health Services Office, or at the moment of Internet registration - is a snapshot of our institutional effectiveness at a given place in time. As members of the entire college community, we are all part of each and every outcome. To learn more>
