MJC was honored to present Shari Johnson as the Disability Services Student of the Year for 2010-11 at the Disability Services Graduation Celebration on April 15. She was presented with a plaque to commemorate the occasion. Shari began her college career at MJC in the spring of 1986 where she attended for one year. At this time she dropped out to get married and start her family. After 19-year marriage ended, she decided it was time to return to MJC to finish her education and to be a positive role model to her four children. Despite having been diagnosed with mental health challenges, including ADHD and severe anxiety, she was determined to succeed. Shari has done exceedingly well since her return to school and has been on the Dean’s List each semester. She graduates this spring with her Associate degree in Behavioral and Social Sciences. In the fall she will continue her journey at CSU Stanislaus with a goal of earning her BA in Sociology. Her ultimate goal is to earn a Master’s degree in Social Work and then go on to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, working with special needs children and their families.
