Student Groups

Student Groups

SGThese listings represent both student-created and organization-created clubs available to students at MJC through the Literature & Language Arts Division. These clubs host a variety of events. Below are short descriptions of each with contact information:

Red Nations and Friends

Red Nations was founded at Modesto Junior College in the Spring Semester of 1996. Our purpose is to promote the culture of Native people, to develop an image that does justice to the complexity of all indigenous peoples' lives and histories, and to support and nurture the scholarship and well-being of the club membership.

Sign Language Club

The Sign Language Club of Modesto Junior College is an organization of students whose purpose is to promote the use and knowledge of American Sign Language and Deaf culture on the college campus and in the community.

Phi Theta Kappa

Students who are named to the President's list (based on academic merit) may be eligible for membership in Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society that recognizes the achievements of students attending two-year colleges. Through seminars, conferences, community projects and fun events, our organization offers members a chance to grow in the areas represented by the four Phi Theta Kappa hallmarks: scholarship, leadership, service, and fellowship.

The Literature and Language Arts Division invites all students to participate in our semester long reading campaigns:

MJC Reads!

MJC Reads! is a division wide reading program which concentrates on poetry and creative fiction in the fall and novels in the spring. Furthermore, students are encouraged to participate in the MJC Reads Student blog.
