VOCATIONAL NURSING PROGRAM
The Modesto Junior College Vocational Nursing Program is approved by the Board of Vocational Nursing & Psychiatric Technicians. Accepted students will complete:
At the completion of the program, students are eligible to take the NCLEX-PN examination to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse.

If you are unclear of the requirements or prerequisites, please contact Allied Health VN Program. If you are just beginning your preparation for the VN Nursing Program and need academic advising, contact the Counseling Center at #575-6080.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
Admission to Modesto Junior College
High School Transcript or GED must be on file in the MJC Records Office
College Transcripts must be from a regionally accredited institution recognized by MJC
Possess a current CNA (Certified Nurse Assistant) Certification
Math, Reading, and English Requirements: The following competencies must be met prior to the program application:

Prerequisite Courses: The following prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade on the transcript prior to the program application deadline:
Required Information: A photocopy of your valid CNA certification and a high school transcript showing graduation or a GED. All must be submitted to the Vocational Nursing Program by the program application deadline or will result in not being qualified for the selection process.
VOCATIONAL NURSING PROGRAM SELECTION PROCESS
The MJC Vocational Nursing Program uses a random selection process to select students from the pool of all qualified applicants. Qualified applicants are those who have transcripts on file, a valid CNA certificate, have met required competencies & prerequisites and have a cumulative 2.5 GPA in the following required courses:
Accepted applicants will receive a letter regarding the Health Clearance process, CPR Certification, and Drug Screening.

All students participating in clinical assignments are required by acute care hospitals to:
CPR Certification
The VN Program MAY offer a Health Care Provider CPR class for all accepted applicants. It is mandatory that students entering the VN Program have a current CPR certification.
Drug Screening
All students participating in clinical assignments must pass a drug screen.

Policy Statement On Denial Of Licensure:
The California Board of Vocational Nursing & Psychiatric Technicians protects the public by screening applicants for licensure in order to identify potentially unsafe practitioners. Statutory authority for denial of licensure is set out in Business and Professions Code. Any student, considering a career in nursing, who has a criminal record, is advised to contact the Board of Vocational Nursing & Psychiatric Technicians for advisement, prior to entering the Vocational Nursing Program.
