Work Experience

Work Experience/Volunteer Opportunities

This class allows students to be volunteer or work at a clinic while receiving their education at MJC. Students are expected to participate in finding a clinic to volunteer/work at. The MJC RVT program will offer suggestions and a list of any clinics looking for RVT students. Work Experience IS NOT REQURIED for the MJC program.

However the MJC RVT program is an alternate route program which means - along with your 20 units of classroom education you must have 4,416 hours of experience in the veterinary industry to sit for the California state RVT exam. Work experience is a great way to begin to build your hours of experience.      All hours of experience must be under a C.A. licensed veterinarian to qualify for RVT exam.

You may also volunteer/work in the veterinary industry and not be enrolled in the work experience program. This is just another option for students to get experience in the field. If you are already employed in the veterinary industry you would not want to sign up for work experience you would just keep track of your hours.

Student are required to adhere to the dress and appearance codes of each clinic as well as the hours and times agreed upon.

Volunteering at the local shelters is also a great opportunity, for students with no practical experience, to get a feel for the daily routine of a busy veterinary atmosphere.
