 All applications for financial assistance programs; i.e., student loans, work compensation, grants, scholarships, special funds, subsidies, prizes, etc., will be considered by the Modesto Junior College without regard to race, color national origin, gender or disability.

 

Students awarded FWS who are interested in literary work, America Reads, in a Modesto City Elementary School, tutoring grade school students with reading or math must have a GPA of 2.5 or better, completed English 101 with a B or better and maintain at least 6 units.  You need to be fingerprinted for clearance to work with these young people; the Financial Aid Office will absorb the cost.  If you are interested in this most rewarding program, contact Mary Ott, 575-7701, in the Student Financial Services Office.

   Student Assistant: Assist staff in testing center by observing students who are taking exams, check out resource books, articles, and videos for students and staff, and other misc duties as directed. Will also float to the computer lab to assist staff there as needed. CIVIC ENGAGEMENT PROJECT
  
Civic Engagement Project Student Assistant: assist members of the project in the planning and hosting of on campus activities, film and lecture events, voter education forums, record keeping, advertising, and recycling education. Student should have keen interest in civic engagement, multicultural diversity and the environment. Should also possess computer (type, work w/Microsoft Word, etc) and communication skills, be detail oriented, and able to work independently to deadlines on multiple tasks on simultaneous timelines.
Duties include operation of CEP information booth in the Student Center, distribution of CEP advertising materials regarding future events, and general office work on behalf of the CEP and its five committees.  Graphic arts and/or web design experience a big plus!!

COMMUNITY EDUCATION (Off-Campus Site)
   Classroom Facility Receptionist: Welcome Community Education students (kids, adults and older adults) to the facility and give directions to classrooms, distribute materials to instructors for classes, provide information on MJC and Community Education classes and programs, ensure classrooms are locked when not in use, collect completed materials from instructors to send to Community Education office, and additional duties as assigned, answer phone calls to the facility.  Student workers will have ample opportunity to study and complete homework while at the work site.

   Student Worker:  Assist teachers and staff in lab related tasks, such as: student supplies prep, trainers settings (back trays, enclosures), hardware prep, trainers cleaning and painting, equipment and tool servicing, analog meters cleaning and basic service, and assist electronic technician with classroom set up in Electronics Room 101.  The students will perform tasks using heavy and light machines to: drill and thread steel plates, use the grinder, use the sheer cutter, and use a manual knock-out.  Students should be able to work with minimum supervision based on sketches, be self-motivated, have mature judgment, ingenious solving practical problems and be familiar with use of hand tools and power tools, and able to perform accurate measurements.
