Breakdown of Fees & Tuition

Enrollment Fees:

Required of all students except those who qualify for a (BOGW) Fee Waiver, and through other Programs.  Fee waiver status must be established in the Financial Aid Office BEFORE registering for courses.  Can be waived for those students who qualify through CalWORKS (AFDC), SSI/SSP, or General Assistance/General Relief, along with other qualifying low income students.

Health Services Fee:

A mandated health fee will be charged to each student regardless of the number of units taken (*$17/semester; *$14/summer).  This allows you to receive minor emergency medical attention on campus at the Health Services offices.  All students, including part-time students, are charged the health fees unless they meet one of the following exemptions: proof of exclusive dependence on prayer for healing (forms available in the office of Vice President fo Student Services, Morris Memorial Building 212), or if you are only enrolled in:

  • courses offered outside the YCCD area
  • courses offered 16 hours or less
  • Off-Campus Contract Education courses
  • As an individual apprentice in apprenticeship classes only

*Per education code section #76355 fee is subject to change by $1.00 based on the implicit price index for state and local government agencies.

Student Center Fee:

Cannot exceed $1 per credit hour, up to a maximum of $10 per student per academic year.  Non-credit enrollees cannot be required to pay the fee.  It can be waived for those students who qualify through CalWORKS (AFDC), SSI/SSP, or General Assistance/General Relief, along with other qualifying low income students.

Non-Resident Enrollment Fee:

AB 540 provides an exemption from nonresident tuition for student who attended and graduated from high school in California.  This benefit is available to US citizens, permanent residents fo the United States, an aliens who are nonimmigrants (including those who are undocumented) who meet all other eligibility requirements.  Interested students should review the form (pdf) and contact the Admissions Office at 575-6853 for information. .

Student Representation Fee:

Established by 2/3 vote of the student body.  Funds are used by MJC to represent student concerns at the local, state, and federal government levels.  You may refuse to pay this fee for religious, political, financial or moral reasons.  Forms are available at MJC Business Services Office, and under College forms in Current Students at www.mjc.edu

Parking Fee:

If you do not plan to purchase a Semester parking permit, be prepared to pay a daily rate at each lot.  Parking permits must be picked up in person at the East or West Campus Business Services Offices.  Picture ID required.  Shuttle Parking Permit also available for $10 per semester (see above).  Students who purchase an auto permit for the semester and have proof of a motorcycle license are eligible for a free motorcycle permit for the same semester.

Fee to Audit Courses:

Required of students who have met the repetition limit for credit courses.  Pay this fee at the MJC Business Services Office.  Students enrolled in 10 or more units at the time audit enrollment occurs will not be assessed the fee for up to 3 units.

Student Benefits Fee:

Payment gives you automatic membership in ASMJC (Associated Students of Modesto Junior College) and discounts.  This optional $5 fee is automatically assessed.  You may refuse to pay this fee by completing the student benefit fee waiver form available in the Business Office, and under College forms in Current Students at www.mjc.edu.
