MJC Foundation

The MJC Foundation annually awards more than $69,000 in student scholarships from donor designated funds. More than $30,000 in program and staff development grants are funded each year for projects such as upgrading science lab equipment, supporting cultural campus events, purchasing musical instruments, providing electronic learning resources and books for the library. We also provide funding for many other important instructional needs at the college.

Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Modesto Junior College Foundation to serve the College, its students, faculty and staff by providing resources through private gifts, donations and grants.

Welcome!

The Modesto Junior College Foundation had its beginnings early in 1967 when a group of MJC alumni, friends of the college, and administrative staff members began to work on establishment of a nonprofit foundation which would ultimately benefit both the college and community. In 1968, the Foundation was granted tax-exempt status from the California Franchise Tax Board and the U.S. Internal Revenue Service. The goal of the Foundation is to receive funds from private sources to promote, foster and implement Modesto Junior College programs in areas where public tax funds were not available.

Today's mission of the Modesto Junior College Foundation mirrors the concerns of those founders 42 years ago. "To generate financial support for and increase community awareness of programs and activities of Modesto Junior College."

Over 100 volunteer staff and family members, students and friends came together with the Foundation staff to host the thirteenth annual Summer Sonata on July 17, 2009. The Summer Sonata fundraiser netted approximately $60,000 for the Foundation.  Planning is already underway for next year's Sonata which will take place at the majestic Gallo Center for the Arts on Thursday, July 15, 2010. Aside from moving to a new location, guests will be treated to a revamped auction and program. Continue to check back for details as they develop!

The Foundation's major gifts program has also continued to thrive, with two stewardship events hosted for the members of the President's Circle. The President's Circle, which now offers three membership levels beginning at $1,000, $1,500 and $2,500 reached $44,000 in membership donations in 2007-2008.

After more than two years of interim leadership, the Foundation hired Mr. Eugene Hill in January 2009. The Foundation staff and campus welcome Mr. Hill and are excited about what the future holds for Modesto Junior College and the Foundation.
