MJC Theatre presents "The Odd Couple"

The Modesto Junior College Theatre department will present Neil Simon's classic comedy "The Odd Couple, (female version)" on May 2, 3, 9 and 10 at 7:30 p.m., and May 4, 10 and 11 at 2 p.m. in the West Campus Cabaret Theatre. The plot centers around two divorced women who live together, but cannot stand each other's habits.  Tickets are $10 general and $8 for students and seniors and will be available at the door 90 minutes before each performance.  For more ticket information call 575-6776.

Under the direction of Professor Jim Johnson, The Odd Couple (female version) is a remake of Simon's long-running Broadway comedy with women playing the two lead roles.  Simon updated the script in the mid ‘80s to a female version starring Rita Moreno and Sally Struthers in the Olive Madison and Florence Unger roles.  These lead roles will be performed by MJC veteran actresses Kara Ow and Jamie Hudson.

Simon's update of his contemporary classic starts with a group of women friends playing their regular game of Trivial Pursuit.  The group is meeting at the apartment of Olive Madison, a divorcee who freely admits to being a slob: "I leave a mess when I read a book."  Late to arrive is Florence Unger, a stickler for detail who would try the patience of a saint, and who has unfortunately just become separated from her husband.  As life would have it, the slob and the fuss-budget decide to room together-with hilarious results.

Within days, Florence's obsessive habits begin taking their toll on Olive and their friends.  The only remedy Olive can think of (a pair of brothers from Barcelona) disastrously backfires, and the two women are forced to agree on one thing-even the best of friends sometimes make the worst of roommates.

Rounding out the cast of the MJC production are Kristina Stinson, Jessica Armendarez, Sarah Thomas, Crystal Backoff, Bryce Duzan and David Garcia.
