MJC Friends of Music offer classical guitarist in concert

            The Modesto Junior College Friends of Music will present a Solo Recital featuring William Kanengiser from the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet on Saturday September 20, at 7:30 p.m. at Trinity United Presbyterian Church, located at 1600 Carver Road in Modesto.

            Tickets are $20 for preferred seating, $12 general and $10 for seniors and students with a student ID card and will be available at the door. Due to limited seating concertgoers are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance at the MJC Box Office, Tuesday through Friday, 12 noon to 5 p.m., or by calling the Box Office during these hours at (209)575-6776. 

            Kanengiser is also scheduled for a Master Guitar Class at 12 noon on September 20 in the same location. There will be a $5 class admission charge at the door.

            Maestro Kanengiser is responsible for several recordings that have furthered the technique and interpretation on the classical guitar today.  He is currently a faculty member at the USC Thornton School of Music. Kanengiser is known for developing a unique and individual repertoire for his instrument, ranging from arrangements of Mozart, Handel and Bartok, to his innovative excursions into the music of Eastern Europe and the Caribbean.  He is a founding member of the renowned Los Angeles Guitar Quartet.  A full biography and samples of recordings from this unique guitarist are available online at http://www.kanengiser.com/.

            The Kanengiser recital is the first in a series of concerts that will be presented by the MJC Friends of Music in 2008-09.  Other upcoming performances will include an MJC Music Faculty Concert on November 2, a piano recital by John Kamitsuka on April 19, the renowned men's chorus Chanticleer -  An Orchestra of Voices on May 17, and Docs Play the Pops III, on June 7, co-sponsored Surgical Artistry and local medical professionals.  Proceeds from Friends of Music events benefit MJC music programs and music student scholarships.  For more information contact Professor Cherrie Llewellyn at (209)575-6262.
