The film Joyeux Noël (rated PG-13) will be screened on December 2 at 6:30 p.m.in Forum 102 on East Campus, and is free and open to the public. The movie depicts, through the eyes of the soldiers, the true story of the World War I ceasefire along the Western front during Christmas of 1914 .
On December 24, 1914, on a battlefield in France, Christmas arrives with snow and bundles of presents from families and the army head office. Drawn together by holiday spirit the French, Scottish and German soldiers they lay down their arms in a spontaneous Christmas Eve truce. That night the soldiers' lives on both sides of the trenches are changed forever. However, the inevitable resumption of conflict and carnage in the days that follow speaks clearly of the futility of war.
