A revised version of the final draft of Modesto Junior College's Facilities Master Plan (FMP) has been received from bfgc Architects and is now available for campus and public review. Click here to view the revised FMP Volumne 1, and click here to view the FMP Volume 2 (additional back up documents). A printed copy of the FMP is available in the reserved section of the East Campus Library. The Board delayed approval of the FMP in June 2007 in order to provide adequate time for making final corrections and changes to the extensive document. However, the Board did approve the proposed budget for the Measure E bond projects, along with the FMP drawings that detail the locations of these projects during their June meeting. MJC's FMP will guide the renovation of existing buildings and construction of new college buildings through the first half of the 21st century.
The proposed FMP is grounded in the research and recommendations of the Educational Master Plan for MJC, which was completed at the end of 2006. The FMP calls for three sequences of campus development, with the Measure E projects encompassed in the first sequence. A public forum on the status of the FMP and MJC's Measure E projects was held on Friday, January 11, 2008. The forum was videotaped and video streamed online four times for viewing by anyone unable to attend the forum.
The FMP Committee had its introductory meeting on March 1, 2007 and followed a very aggressive timeline to complete its work before the June Board Meeting. The FMP committee was co-chaired by Dr. Brenda Robert, Interim Vice President of Instruction and David Cartnal, bfgc Architects. Committee members included Paul Cripe and Michael Strangio, faculty; Mike Sundquist, instruction; Martha Robles, student services; Sandra Vanwey, CSEA; Maria Quivaljo, ASMJC; Sherri Suarez, MJC facilities and events; and Tim Nesmith and Judy Lanchester, district facilities. Questions on the revised FMP should be addressed to Mark Newton, Kitchell Corporation, at mnewton@kitchell.com.
