Concert Choir offers spring performance on April 27
The Modesto Junior College Department of Music presents the Concert Choir in "Sing Me A Requium, Sing Me To Heaven" on Monday, April 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the Main Auditorium of the Performing and Media Arts Center on the East Campus, 435 College Avenue, Modesto.
The concert program will include excerpts from Mozart and Faure requiems, American folk songs and spirituals, and several solos and duets by MJC students singing pieces from Broadway musicals and operas. The choir will be conducted by Cherrie Llewellyn, D.M.A. and accompanied by pianist Yan Yan Chan, D.M.A.
Guest performances will include the Johansen High School Concert Choir under the direction of Jennifer Champeaux, and soloists Sandra Rubalcava, Letitia Miller and Katie Stephanic.
The MJC Concert Choir will sing in celebration of the lives of Professor of Speech Charles Mullins, Professor Emeritus of Music Lewis Woodward, Pamela Aguilar, financial aid system specialist and MJC music supporter, and Tyron Payton, former member of the choir and MJC student. A video presentation by Wes Page will be shown in their memory during the performance.
“The choir will sing in honor of our college colleagues and all those we have lost who made our lives better,” said Llewellyn.
Admission is $5 general and $1 for students of all ages and senior citizens. Tickets are available in the Auditorium Lobby beginning 90 minutes prior to the concert. Campus parking is $2 in student lots.
