Men’s Track and Field Team successful at State Meet
The MJC Men’s Track and Field Team had a highly success showing at the 2015 State Meet. Highlighted by Daniel Roberts winning three state titles in the Hammer Throw, Shot Put, and Discus Throw, the MJC Men’s Track and Field Team, led by Coach Demitrius Snaer, the team placed 4th – MJC’s best placing in school history at the state meet!
“I’m speechless,” Coach Snaer said. “Daniel has really left his mark on community college track and field and he is only a freshman.”
Roberts was also awarded the State “Field Athlete of the Year” for his outstanding accomplishment.
“Coming to Modesto and working with Coach Mack (MJC’s throws coach, Bob MacKay) was definitely worth it,” Roberts said. “I can’t wait for next season.”
Roberts came to MJC by way of Mobridge, South Dakota.
Another highlight of the meet was MJC’s 4x100 meter relay that placed second and broke the school record in a time of 40.79. That team was made up of Dwight Shaw, Matthew East, Justin Burton, and Russell Maxwell.
“The goal is always to run our fastest at the last meet of the year,” Coach Snaer explained. “What great way to end the year!”
Other scorers were Shaw in the 100m (5th place) and long jump (7th place), East in the 100m (7th place) and 200m (6th place) and Erick Loomis in the hammer throw (8th place).
“With our returners and incoming freshman, this group looks forward to building on this year’s success for next year,” said Coach Snaer.
