Modesto Junior College

MJC hosts 16 teams for 78th Annual Basketball Tournament

Modesto Junior College will host the 78th Annual Men’s Basketball Tournament from December 15 through December 19 in the Gymnasium on East Campus.  The tournament is an MJC and Modesto community sports tradition, and is one of the longest running tournaments in the nation.

There will be 16 teams competing, including 14 community colleges from around California and one from Arizona, as well as the junior varsity team from Bristol University in Anaheim, California. In addition to the hosting MJC’s Men’s Basketball Team, the community colleges sending teams to the 2015 tournament are Allan Hancock, Chabot, Columbia, Contra Costa, Cosumnes River, Cuesta, Fresno City, Lassen, Mendocino, Ohlone, Porterville, Sacramento City and Yuba from California, and Pima from Arizona.

Legend’s Night will be held on December 16, when former MJC basketball alums will be recognized during halftime of the 6 p.m. game between the MJC Pirates and Bristol University’s JV team.  A reunion of the 25th Anniversary of MJC’s 1990-91 conference champion team will also be featured.  Additionally, December 16 is “Pack the House and Paint it Blue Night” when students from all local schools can get in free just by wearing blue.

For the times of all games, click here to download a 2015 Tournament game bracket.  General admission is $7.  Senior citizens and veterans are $5.  Students of any age are $3.  MJC students showing student ID and children under seven years of age are free.

Grower Direct Nut Company is once again sponsoring the tournament.
