Eric Fischer took over the Men's Water polo and Swim programs in 1997, following the retirement from coaching from long time head coach Dave Ashleigh. Eric received All-American honors in Water Polo at Grace Davis High School his senior year and in both years as a competitor at Modesto Junior College. Then continuing on to California State University Fresno, where he started as the 2-M defense player for the Bulldogs his senior year.
Eric enjoys the continual challenges of intercollegiate competition; his player's have received numerous All-American awards and continuing on to Four-year institutions. Eric graduated from United States Sports Academy in the summer of 2004 with a Master’s in Sports Coaching.
Eric has been married to Terri since 1993 and has four son's Kameron, Ian, and Seth and Jack.
Swimming
In 2007 the MJC swim team had another solid season being led by Zack Bethel (Backstroke 54.02, 1:59.49) and Nick Zambruno( sprint free 21.49, 48.12).
We are looking forward to a great 2008 season, with many freshmen coming in with sophomore Nick Hafer leading the group in Breaststroke (1:01.80).

Water polo
Coach Eric Fischer has been the head coach since 1999, when long time head coach Dave Ashleigh retired. In his short career at MJC the teams have seen increasing success every year. With the new pool in place only better things will be sure to come.
The 2007 season is in full swing, finishing the third week at the Ohlone tournament with a 12-11 win over Delta in the Championship game. Modesto trailed by two most of the game until the final 2 minutes when they rallied back and took a 1 goal lead with 1:30 left. Delta scored to tie the game on the next possession, Vito Polovin scored the game wining goal with: 22 from a Daniel Hunt. Scott Bryant stole the ball back with: 07 left to preserve the win for Modesto and extend their record to 9-4 and working on a 7 game win streak.
Modesto has one of their largest teams in many years, 17 players. 6 sophomores and 11 freshmen from the local area comprise the Modesto Team. Daniel Hunt, 2nd team all Conference ’06, and Andrew Pedersen Honorable Mention league lead the pirates in the 2007 season. Scotty Bryant, Derek Bolton, Jason Winchester, and Scott Wherry finish out the sophomore class. The freshman class is a strong one: Vitaly Polovin, Max Ottersbach, Miguel Castillo and UCSB transfer Eric Scudder from Ceres High, Cody Alkire from Downey, Bryan Wilson Grace Davis, Kennan Kayser Beyer, Casey Norton Oakdale, Nick Hafer, and Tim Alford and Karim El-Essawi from West High in Tracy fill out the Pirate team. The sophomore class is leading by example the freshman are learning quickly.
