The 2008 season is here and the Lady Pirates have had a major overhaul.  Several players have finished their Pirate’s career, which means several players will be entering.  Coach Aristotelous is planning on bringing in approximately fourteen new players to compliment his ten returnees.   The sophomores will need to bring their experience to the table to help get the freshmen acclimated to the very strong Big 8 conference.

Sixteen teams from the north make the state tournament; last year seven of them were from the conference.  “Fortunately playoff berths are awarded based on strength of schedule.  Our conference is extremely strong and we all get rewarded for that come the end of the season.”  The pre-season isn’t a walk in the park either.  The lady Pirates will face other conference champions and playoff caliber teams from the 2007 season.  Every game is important and can be the difference between being at home, on the road, or left out of the playoffs.

The lady Pirates have been to the playoffs six straight seasons; a school record and one they hope to continue.  They also have been ranked nationally at one time or another the last three years.  “I feel this group can continue these positive trends.  We have plenty of players in every position that can and will contribute throughout the year.  Every team faces serious and nagging injuries over the course of the competition, so it is my job to make sure all these young ladies are prepared to step in at various positions to help us reach our goals.”

With the past seasons being a success, four-year colleges are taking notice, and are becoming very active in recruiting the young ladies.  “It is my goal to help players who are serious about playing at the next level to find a school that suits their needs.  In order to play at the next level, one has to be a good soccer player, but more importantly a good student.  If a player can fit this mold, there are schools out there for players to continue their soccer and academic career.  I encourage high school players in the area to give this program some serious thought.  It is an opportunity to keep playing the greatest sport in the world, receive an excellent education, and have a lot of fun.”
