Along with his coaching duties, Young has been a physical education instructor at Modesto Junior College for the past 12 years. During Young’s tenure the Pirates have compiled a 22-11 record and the Pirates been victorious in three consecutive post-season bowls. He is a native of Porterville, California and a product of the community college system. He transferred to the University of California, Davis where he received his bachelor’s degree in physical education. He later received his Master’s degree in “Sport Performance” from Sacramento State. Young started his coaching career in football and competed in track in 1975 at his Alta mater, U.C. Davis “I see myself as an Educator who happens to work in the physical realm,” Young has stated. “ I think everyone benefits by getting involved in something that is bigger than themselves, and team sports provide this opportunity for our students.”  “ Success can be found in a strong work ethic that is rooted in paying close attention to detail”. “I’ve been blessed to be able to work with so many gifted individuals”.” My philosophy is simply to encourage students to be intense enough to get the job done, but be relaxed enough to enjoy the journey.”
