7 Steps to Enroll

Advanced admission may be granted for students who are academically superior 9th-12th grade students who are at least 14 years old by the start of the semester for which they are applying.

The high school principal/reported designee has certified that the student is prepared to undertake associate degree applicable credit courses. The high school principal/reported designee must determine that the student is capable of benefiting from advanced scholastic or vocational (college level) work.

High school students can enroll in MJC credit courses that are associate degree applicable (numbered 50-399) if they have met all established special conditions set forth in the Yosemite Community College District Board Policy and Procedures.

High school students can only enroll in the courses approved by their principal or reported designee.

High school students can only enroll as a part-time student. To enroll in more than 11 units requires approval by the high school’s governing board and by the MJC President. This must be done prior to enrollment at MJC.

In order to be approved for a second or more semester, concurrently enrolled students must be in good academic standing at MJC (defined as having a cumulative 2.0 or higher MJC grade point average. The number of W’s in relationship to attempted units will also be taken into consideration).

The college will waive the enrollment fee of all junior high and high school students who enroll as special “part-time” students. There are no such provisions for special full-time students (11.5+ units). Students are responsible to pay all other related fees, including out-of-state tuition, (if applicable). If a student is classified as undocumented or as a non-resident, they will be charged non-resident fees (currently $204 per unit, subject to change).

About Applying for Admission

A new student is any student who has never attended MJC. A returning student is any student who enrolled in an MJC course any time in the past. New and returning students must complete the New Student Admissions Application

In order to be assigned a registration date, all new and returning students must complete the New Student Admissions Application. Applications are available online.

Apply Early!

The date a student registers has a direct bearing on whether or not the class(es) desired will still be open. At Modesto Junior College, students register on a priority basis. Students who have been enrolled during the past year register in order of units completed and in progress (with 99 being the maximum number of units).  Students who exceed 99 units go to the bottom of the list. After all continuing students have registered, new and returning students register, according to the date their completed online application is received by the Admissions Office.

Registration dates and times are assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis. Applications that are submitted earlier will be given earlier registration dates and times. An early registration date will allow you to select from the broadest selection of classes.

Registration Date and Time

As soon as your Admissions Application is processed, you will receive your registration date and time via the email address provided on your application. You will also receive an email via your student email account with that same informaiton before registration begins!

Units completed at other colleges

Many students have attended other accredited colleges recognized by Modesto Junior College. Students who have transcripts forwarded to MJC for evaluation may receive equivalent credit for courses that can be used to satisfy prerequisites, program requirements, graduation requirements or transfer requirements.  These course units accepted by the college can be used during second & subsequent semesters to improve a student's registration priority. Students should understand that these units count in the 99 unit maximum threshold. Students lose their registration priority at 99.5 units.
