Health Services FAQ's


Q-1. What are the requirements to obtain a Health Clearance for my program?

A- It depends on which program you are in. See below. Click on the appropriate box for more information:

Q-2. Why do I need two TB skin tests?

A- Most medical settings now require the two step TB skin test to ensure a more accurate reading/result. All students entering programs listed above (question #1) are required to have two TB tests to complete their health clearance.

Q-4. Can I get all my immunizations/screenings at once?

A- It will depend on which immunizations you need. The nurse will review your documented immunizations to determine what you need.

Q-5. Do I make an appointment for my Health Clearance?

A- No, our services are offered on a walk-in basis.

Q-6. What are the hours for Health Services?

A- See posted hours on homepage

Q-7. Why do I need a MJC student ID card and a current semester sticker?

A- The student ID card determines whether you are a student at MJC and the semester sticker states that you have paid your health fee. Health Services is not funded by general funds like other departments; we are funded by the health fee only.

Q-8. How many times do I need to come into Health Services?

A- It is difficult to say because it depends on the requirements of your program. Typically, the average number of visits is 4 or more.

Q-9. How can I minimize the number of visits that I need to come to Health Services?

A- By preparing in advance and bringing documented proof of immunizations/screenings to Health Services. Please refer to question #1 worksheet for your program.

Q-10. How long will my visit take in Health Services?

A- Visits can take anywhere from 15 minutes- 60 minutes with the nurse, However, the wait time in general will depend upon the number of students waiting for service, current staffing or on a case by case basis.

Q-11. Do I have to restart my Hepatitis B series if I never completed it?

A- No. You will need documented proof of the completed Hepatitis B immunizations you received. Then the nurse will determine what you need to complete the series.

Q-12. What blood work (titers) will I need?

A- Please see question #1. If you do not have documented proof of immunizations you can request the following blood titers (blood work) to determine if you are immune. Hepatitis B Mumps Rubella Rubeola Varicella (Chicken Pox)

Q-13. Where can I have titers (blood work) completed?

A- After obtaining a lab request from Health Services or your provider, titers (blood work) may be completed at Quest Lab or lab indicated by your provider. Should your blood work indicate that you lack immunity to a particular disease, you will be required to take the entire series of immunizations for that particular disease.

Q-15. Where can I get a physical if I don't have insurance or a medical provider?

A- Please visit Health Services for more information on low cost medical providers.

Q-16. What is a health clearance?

A- A Health Clearance is a list of requirements set up by an institution. In the health care setting, hospitals or long-term care facilities are responsible to protect their patients as well as staff from communicable disease. Prior to being granted the privilege of entering the clinical setting and for everyone's safety and protection, you must provide proof of taking every step available to remain free of diseases that are preventable.

Q-17. How do I receive a Health Clearance?

A- Once you have completed all of the requirements for your particular program (refer to question #1), bring all your documentation to Health Services in order to receive your "Clearance Form".
