Nurse of Distinction awarded to MJC Professor

Modesto Junior College Professor of Nursing Kelly Butler was honored by Alpha Phi Chapter Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc with a “Nurse of Distinction” Award at the annual tribute to nurse’s banquet held October 23 in Stockton. 

Alpha Phi is the Stockton Chapter of Chi Eta Phi. Sorority, Inc., an organization of over 8000 female and male registered nurses and nursing students. The sorority's programs focus on health promotion and disease prevention, recruitment and retention, education, mentoring and leadership development.

Butler became a registered nurse after graduating from Chabot Community College and went on to earn her master’s degree in Nursing from CSU, Sacramento. Her nursing experience is largely comprised of cardiac care and staff development. In 2001, Butler was part of a cardiovascular surgery team that traveled to Vladivostok, Russia, to teach Russian counterparts about cardiovascular surgery care. She has had a featured article published on clinical simulation in the Journal of “Clinical Simulation in Nursing.” She presently serves as the course coordinator at MJC for first semester students and is a valued asset to the Associate Degree Nursing Program. Butler is married to Chuck Butler, a retired Modesto firefighter and has two sons.
