Modesto Institute for Continued Learning (MICL), a community of lifelong learners affiliated with Modesto Junior College, invites senior citizens who are looking for a fun learning program to attend an informational meeting on Thursday, January 12 at 10:00 a.m. in the MICL classroom, Building 6000 on MJC’s West Campus. The schedule of not-for-credit classes for the 2012 Spring Semester will be announced; there will be a chance to register, and refreshments will be served.
The semester-long classes include Strength Training, Travel, Writers’ Workshop, What in the World (Current Issues) and Friday at the Movies. Five-week classes are also offered in three sessions (A, B, C) during the semester. The A Session topics include Modern Art, MICL Meet Your Past, Potpourri, Birding, and Bridge.
MICL’s aim is to provide an invigorating learning experience of physical, mental and social opportunities. In addition to the classes, members are invited to take part in potlucks, daytrips to places of interest, and monthly birthday lunches, plus and end-of-the-year luncheon and a summertime ice cream social. Learning new things keeps the brain healthy and young, and MICL classes accomplish this while remaining fun and stress-free. There are no attendance requirements, exams, or grades!
Registration for the semester is $40, payable to MJC, with no limit to the number of MICL classes you take. Parking permits are $10 for the semester and a $10 donation to MICL would be appreciated to help cover basic supplies. For more information call Community Education at 575-6063, or Bill Sharp MICL representative, at 529-9440.
MICL is a senior student-run program and a nonprofit organization with an elected board of directors and officers. The organization has been holding classes and social activities for older adult learners on the MJC campus for over 25 years.
